Global FM Awards class of 2018

As part of World FM Day which took place yesterday (16 May), Global FM, the worldwide alliance of facilities management (FM) membership organisations, announced its Awards of Excellence in FM 2018 winners.

This year’s Awards were hosted by the South African Facilities Management Association (SAFMA).

The Winners of the Global FM Awards 2018 are as follows:

  • Platinum Award – BIFM – Johnson &Johnsons Workplace Experience Strategy.
  • Gold Award is presented to ABRAFAC – Speed Up: The Future Has Arrived.
  • Silver Award goes to MEFMA – Leading the Digital Transformation of the FM Industry in the Middle East and Beyond.
    Special mention is made to IFMA – Future Facilities @ ARM.

Johnson & Johnson: J&J Workplace Experience Strategy

For Johnson & Johnson (J&J), an office is an expression of corporate identity, culture and values. This, along with the organisation’s business needs, informed the Workplace Experience Strategy (WES) that seeks to unite the global team by offering an excellent employee experience. J&J has rolled out four tools globally to help evaluate, manage and harmonise workplace experiences.

The Workplace Experience Guide is an online interactive tool that provides a framework for the workplace experience, including best practice, guidelines and examples around people, facilities and place. A Community Space Strategy tool outlines how to provide the optimal types and mix of peripheral site amenities based on the needs of employees, including fitness/health centres, restaurants and so on. Workplace Certification is a site evaluation tool that rates seven key aspects of a site’s workplace experience, including physical space, technology, brand, service, people, communication, environmental health and safety, and sustainability. The tool helps to meet the standards outlined in the guide. A Workplace Innovation Programme promotes J&J’s global strategy for workspaces that drive productivity, collaboration and innovation.

Key outcomes include increased efficiency and effectiveness, and improved employee health and wellbeing. J&J has also embraced FM strategies that encourage sustainable planning, design and operations, the support of local communities, and reducing the organisations’ environmental impact.

Speed Up: The Future Has Arrived

Future proofing FM is the driving force behind this project. Facilities managers need to use speed, resilience and differentiated assistance to meet changing FM requirements, whilst still remaining aligned with core business strategies. Proactive solutions, implementing new technologies, sharing information and working with new methodologies are key.

Methodologies such as Design Thinking, Kanban and Scrum, and Agile Table have all been implemented in order to increase speed, ensure deadlines are met, take a more proactive approach, and successfully utilise smart technologies.

As the only company undertaking this transformation, suppliers and service providers had to be persuaded to buy in and work collaboratively to find mutually agreeable solutions that were successful and effective. Banco Santander has since become a national example of how these initiatives can be utilised by any company, regardless of size or function.

Pilot projects in partnership with several global companies have also been implemented. Smart technologies have been introduced to better manage building access and use of space, as well as resource conservation. These include a maintenance app, an online ACS system for efficient resource management, and a mobile BMS that utilises a BYOD (Bring Your Own Device) solution.

Increased employee satisfaction, decreased response times, decreased waste generation and electricity consumption, as well as a centralised FM structure and a reduction in corrective requests all indicate that the project has been a success.

Leading the Digital Transformation of the FM Industry in the Middle East and Beyond

Enova is leading the digital transformation of the FM industry in the Middle East thanks to a network of complementary smart tools using cutting edge technology and levering off Big Data. The suite consists of a series of custom-made B2B and B2C dashboards, the mobile Enova by Veolia App and the Enova Smart Waste App (Eswap), and the smart monitoring platform Hubgrade.

A sophisticated data analysis system enables this hypervision tool to accurately monitor and analyse energy and water consumption and waste generation of multi-functional large-scale sites. This allows areas of optimisation and maintenance to be identified and seen to by onsite or mobile teams.

In 2017 Enova achieved 40 000 tons of CO2 reduction and saved AED26.2million compared to 2016.Current solar projects will reduce CO2 emissions by 3 200 tons yearly and deliver AED80million in savings. By providing an integrated solution combining energy efficiency and FM tailored to end user needs, Enova offers healthy and comfortable conditions and reduced consumption of precious resources, as well as reduced operational costs.

A strong company-wide focus on innovation, particularly with regard to sustainability, is driven by in-house training and internal skills development.

Future Facilities @ARM

Future Facilities @ARM believes in creating an environment that stimulates and empowers employees whilst also ensuring that sustainability is at the heart of all the facilities services they deliver. To achieve this, ARM has delivered a number of smart building aspects associated with the operations of its global headquarters (set to handover in Q4 2018). These include a smart lighting system, the ARM App (that uses smart lighting location-based services to improve the working life of employees), GDAs Global Access System, Room Management System, and Smart Parking System – all in addition to existing smart building technology already in place.

Increasing the power efficiency of ARM products whilst reducing environmental impact is enabled by global CSR management and a global drive to reduce carbon emissions, and as such the ARM FM team is at the heart of the Team ARM approach that includes CSR, a global employee-led fundraising and team-building network that contributes to local communities, and an Energy Use and Climate Change Committee. ARM ships over 20 billion microchips a year, making a significant impact on the global environment and economy. These initiatives ensure that the impact is a positive one.

Internally, the health and wellbeing of employees is actively encouraged and driven through several partnerships with external providers, with areas covered including nutrition and fitness, furniture, environment and lifestyle.
