Sodexo has scooped HSJ’s Facilities Management Supplier of the Year award at the inaugural event held on 8 March at Banking Hall, London.
The awards, run by Health Service Journal (HSJ), the news and information service for all healthcare leaders working in, for, or with the NHS, are the first to celebrate the innovation and excellence demonstrated by NHS commercial partners and Sodexo’s award recognised the full partnership working between Sodexo and the estates and facilities team of its client, University Hospitals of North Midlands (UHNM) NHS Trust.
The UHNM Trust was created in 2014 with the merger of the former University Hospital of North Staffordshire NHS Trust and Mid-Staffordshire NHS Foundation Trust. It serves around three million people across Staffordshire and North Wales, and is one of the largest hospital Trusts in the country with a large Private Finance Initiative (PFI) contract and a complex mix of in-house and outsourced estates and facilities services.
Working in partnership with the UHNM’s in-house estates and facilities team work, Sodexo is responsible for the soft FM services throughout the PFI and retained estate and hard FM services to the PFI.
Sodexo’s 1,000-strong on-site team deliver a range of services from patient and visitor catering; cleaning and infection prevention; security; portering; helpdesk; reception; waste; maintenance; utilities; and lifecycle management.
Commenting on Sodexo’s winning entry, the judges said: “This winning project was used as a lever to achieve a seed change in the relationship between the private sector partner and the Trust. They were impressed with genuine evidence of partnership working, and close involvement of nursing staff.”
James Taylor, CEO of Healthcare in UK and Ireland said: “This is a brilliant achievement for both Sodexo and the UHNM Trust. The award is a true reflection of what you can achieve for our patient’s quality of life when working in partnership.”
Sodexo has scooped the Facilities Management Services provider award in a unique awards scheme run by Health Service Journal (HSJ), the news and information service for all healthcare leaders working in, for, or with the NHS.
Sodexo won the Facilities Management Provider of the Year category at the HSJ Partnership Awards, which recognise the efforts of private sector organisations that work behind the scenes to help the NHS deliver better and more cost-effective patient care.
Clugston FM was highly commended in the Facilities Management category of the awards, which culminated in a ceremony in London on March 8, where guests celebrated the significant contribution made to the NHS by the companies that made the shortlist, were highly commended or declared winners.
The HSJ Partnership Awards scheme, which was launched in 2017, rewards inspirational work carried out for the NHS by organisations ranging from architects, builders and facilities managers to IT experts, pharma companies, healthcare providers and MedTech firms.
Entrants were required to demonstrate that their projects had made a tangible difference to the NHS by, for example, improving services, facilities or quality of life for patients, or saving money.
Alastair McLellan, Editor of HSJ, said: “The NHS relies heavily on the private sector for goods and services, but in these tough economic times suppliers must work harder than ever to ensure they offer value for money and help the NHS innovate and improve.
“The HSJ Partnership Awards scheme was launched last year to recognise and celebrate the significant contribution made behind the scenes by innovative suppliers. The judges have been greatly impressed by the standard of entries and we warmly congratulate the winners, highly commended organisations and all those who made it on to the shortlist.”
