Acquisition bolsters Mitie’s telecoms capability

Mitie has acquired DAEL Ventures UK, together with its subsidiaries DAEL Telecom, JB Towers and JISTICS, for £15 million in a move that will boost Mitie’s telecoms capability.

DAEL Ventures is the UK arm of DAEL Netherlands, a leading provider of acquisition, design and construction (ADC) services for telecoms infrastructure. With a UK team of around 130 DAEL Ventures provides efficient and affordable telecoms solutions for multiple customers, building, upgrading, optimising, and maintaining cell sites throughout the UK.

Alongside ADC services, the business also provides specialist managed services of temporary mobile infrastructure to support the special events market, as well as bespoke structural engineering and design services for telecoms assets. DAEL Ventures UK has an unrivalled reputation for design capability and innovative solutions, particularly for building sites in remote and complex locations such as the highland and island of Scotland and remote locations of England and Wales.

Mitie already provides maintenance and engineering services for 20,000 telecoms assets across the UK and Ireland. Using its cutting-edge technology, Mitie is implementing technology solutions and innovations to make processes more efficient as well as reducing environmental impact, such as optimising planned maintenance and reducing the number of engineer visits or ‘truck rolls’ to sites.

DAEL’s design and installation experience coupled with Mitie’s leading technology and scale will create a new force in telecoms. The partnership will provide an end-to-end service for the industry, from mast design right though to decommissioning. This is increasingly important as the UK gears up to establish a full 5G network over the next 3-5 years which requires upgrading the existing mast network.

Andy Train, Managing Director, DAEL Telecom, and James Brennan, Managing Director, JB Towers, will join Mitie’s Technical Services business to create a new Mitie Telecoms division.

Carlo Alloni, Managing Director, Technical Services and Integrated Facilities Management, Mitie, said: “With the acquisition of DAEL Ventures UK we are broadening and deepening our telecoms offering which will benefit both our customers and the UK and Ireland’s wider mobile network as we support the rollout of 5G. Together, DAEL and Mitie can offer the best in design, technology innovation and service and I look forward to welcoming the DAEL team to Mitie.”

Phil Bentley, Chief Executive Officer, Mitie, commented: “The acquisition, which is aligned with our new growth and margin enhancement strategy, provides us with the opportunity to broaden our scale and expertise in the fast-growing telecoms sector. Mitie will now have market-leading capabilities, putting us in a strong position to take advantage of the growth prospects arising from the rollout of 5G in the UK.”

FMJ and Grundon Waste Management have launched the 2021 waste and recycling management survey. It’s the fourth year for the annual appraisal of how FMs manage their waste and recycling activities and one which marks an unprecedented period of disruption to services due to the pandemic.

In order to understand how FMs have navigated their way through the last year and their plans for meeting stringent waste and recycling targets we’ve posed a series of questions – aided by the advice and experience of our editorial steering committee.

The results of the 2021 survey will be published in FMJ magazine and form the basis of a white paper co-written by FMJ and the experts at Grundon on how to approach waste and recycling strategies.
