Amey partners with BuildForce to support Service leavers and Veterans

With around 14,000 personnel leaving the Forces each year Amey is keen to tap into this pool of talent and has formed an alliance with BuildForce, an industry led programme that aims to reduce the skills gap in the construction industry by recruiting ex-military personnel.

Building on its commitment to the Armed Forces covenant, Amey will be working closely with BuildForce to provide opportunities for Service leavers and Veterans to engage with its business.

With the help of a network of Amey BuildForce mentors spread across the UK, the business will be organising site visits, work placements and providing guidance and support with CV writing and mock interviews – all with the aim of offering suitable employment positions not only within Amey but also within its supply chain.

Around 10 per cent of Amey’s workforce across its Defence contracts come from a Forces background, and many more employees have worked closely with the military for many years.

Tim Redfern, Amey’s Managing Director, Defence, and ex-Seaman Officer in the Royal Navy, has been nominated Amey BuildForce Ambassador and having signed the BuildForce Veterans Alliance Charter in December, will be providing direction and support throughout the programme.

Redfern commented: “With an ever-increasing skills gap in the construction industry, we are keen for Service leavers and Veterans to see Amey as a Forces friendly organisation and one that encourages and welcomes them as they make their transition into a civilian career.

“Our partnership with BuildForce will ensure that we harness the skills of our Armed Forces community and draw on their knowledge to improve the service we provide to our customers.”
