Apleona gifts £100k to support apprenticeships campaign

Apleona is marking National Apprenticeship Week (3-9 February) by donating £100,000 to support a campaign to secure £1 million of levy fund gifting in just 100 days.

The UK facilities management and workspace services company is the first official employer partner to support Total People‘s drive to see levy funds gifted to help small business growth through apprenticeships.

The donation of unspent levy by Apleona to the £1m in 100 Days campaign will enable 30 Adult Care Worker apprentices or 15 Children, Young People and Families practitioners to gain their qualifications, while simultaneously boosting the health and social care sectors.

Apleona presently employs 16 apprentices in roles as diverse as Business Administration, Customer Service, Project Management, Electrical Maintenance, Property Maintenance, and Cleaning Science.

Jane Podmore, Apleona HR Director (UK & Ireland), said: “The health and social care system is under particular pressure and we believe that by assisting in training the next generation to support in this vital area that we are doing our bit to help the wider community.

“We are delighted and proud to be able to partner with Total People to put our unused levy to a great cause.”

As one of the North West’s largest providers of apprenticeships and training, Total People aims to secure enough funding to allow small and medium enterprises to upskill their staff through apprenticeships.

Gina Steele, Total People Managing Director, said: “This is an amazing opportunity for large levy paying businesses to make a real difference to people’s lives with the expert help of Total People.

“Each pound of levy gifted funding not only boosts small business growth, thereby strengthening the UK economy, but also improves the life chances of the people working within that organisation.”

By gifting surplus levy, large employers can sponsor an apprenticeship in their chosen sector or industry, while at the same time supporting employment and skills development in SME businesses who benefit from fully funded apprenticeship training.

Levy paying employers are those with a wage bill of over £3 million and see 0.5 per cent of their payroll go to HMRC to the levy.

In April 2019, the Government made it possible for levy paying employers to ‘gift’ up to 25 per cent of their apprenticeship Levy to fund new apprenticeships.
