The British Institute of Facilities Management (BIFM) has entered into a partnership with 3edges to launch a Workplace Leadership Programme to be delivered through the BIFM Academy, from the first quarter of 2018.
The foundation for the development of the Workplace Leadership Programme has been based on two recent initiatives. Firstly, the publication in December 2016 of The Workplace Advantage report, by The Stoddart Review, which highlighted the importance of the workplace as a strategic lever for organisations, and secondly research commissioned by BIFM and carried out by 3edges in the summer of 2017 to discover what ‘workplace’ means for the FM profession, which revealed workplace provides opportunities to reconsider the FM profession’s enabling function to business performance and ‘workplace’ is not synonymous with ‘strategic FM’ – it is about thinking and acting differently.
Linda Hausmanis, Chief Executive, at BIFM said: “BIFM understands the impact of the workplace on organisations. By ensuring that the opportunities which space, culture and technology present are considered throughout the lifecycle of a facility, FM has a significant influence on how the workplace can evolve. BIFM has a responsibility to encourage and support our members and organisations in its awareness of the workplace. The programme that is being created is about building future capability in the drive to increase productivity and organisational performance”
An Executive Summary of key findings from the workplace research will be available to BIFM members in November, and will subsequently inform a series of practitioner-focused guides exploring the cultural, technological and physical elements of workplace, to be published in early 2018.
Recognising much needs to be done to raise workplace awareness and understanding, BIFM and 3edges will develop a Workplace Leadership Programme to enhance workplace education. It will be attractive to all professional disciplines – not only FM – which recognise ‘workplace’ as a critical lever to enhance the performance of their people and their organisations.
