Service providers and clients are often unsure how to achieve statutory compliance, and as there is no universally-agreed framework or approach to determining whether an organisation is, or is not, compliant, BIFM seeks to instigate an ongoing nationwide discussion by capturing the views of people within the FM industry.
Initially, the report aims to arrive at a clearer understanding of which FM activities are essential in order to be compliant. The paper also looks to distinguish these tasks from other FM activities that may or may not be required by clients.
Peter Brogan, BIFM’s Head of Research and Insights commented: “There is no universally agreed framework approach to determining whether an organisation is or is not compliant; our national debate will therefore be hugely beneficial in capturing, and consequently sharing the views of those in the FM industry on what constitutes compliance.”
James Bradley, Director of Complete Compliance at Churchill Service Solutions, who sponsored and hosted the Leaders’ Forum debate, added: “This report is a valuable first step and source of intelligence for the industry. It will help those within the built environment to push the conversation forward and arrive at an accord that will ultimately result in better standards and safer buildings, which can only be a good thing. Following on from the debate, BIFM intends to publish a Good Practice Guide to compliance.
