Carillion wins Queen’s Award for sustainable development

Carillion has been recognised for its contribution to sustainable development, gaining a Queen’s Award for Enterprise.

Established in 1965 by royal warrant, the Queen’s Awards are bestowed by the reigning monarch each year on his or her Birthday. Today (21 April), on Her Majesty the Queens 91st birthday, 176 Queen’s Awards have been announced, with Carillion being just one of 11 recipients in the sustainable development category.

Widely regarded as the most prestigious business award in the country, recipients have to demonstrate outstanding results in their respective fields of innovation, international trade or sustainable development.

Carillion won the Award for demonstrating its commitment to a balance across environmental, economic and social impacts, plus evidence of sector-leadership through its Sustainability 2020 strategy.

Through detailed analysis of its relationships with employees, customers, suppliers and other external partners, Carillion was able to demonstrate a strong commercial case for sustainability, integrated with its core strategy, and a contribution to profit contribution through sustainable behaviours and actions.

Commenting, Carillion Chief Sustainability Officer, David Picton said:

“Whilst it’s a great honour to have won the Queen’s Award, it’s exceptional to have won it for sustainability. In tough, competitive markets, Carillion people commit to responsible business as a core value, building trust and ethics, protecting the environment and changing lives through inspiring community engagements. Gaining the Queen’s Award recognises the value of investing in sustainability – it does matter, it does make a difference and does build a better long-term business for those who invest in us.”

Carillion will now be able to use the esteemed Queen’s Awards emblem for the next five years and representatives from the company will be invited to a reception at the Palace later in the year to mark the achievement.
