Centrepoint calls on contract caterers to share a smile for charity

This autumn will see Centrepoint bring the nation together to create the first ever Soupathon.

The youth homelessness charity is enlisting the help of contract caterers to turn the nation into Souper Troupers, with the aim of more than 3,000 soup parties being held across the country in offices, homes and community spaces from 2-10 November 2018. The organisers hope the Soupathon will serve up 30,000 bowls of hearty soup and is challenging participants to ‘share a smile’ by customising their soup of choice with a smile.

Soup is already a menu staple at corporate workplaces and staff canteens, and Centrepoint has produced The Big Broth Soupathon point of sale so that contract caterers can create a ‘Smile Station’ to promote this initiative. Sites are urged to supply croutons, salad, coconut flakes, seeds, herbs, grated cheese and anything else to help diners create a smile, donate a little something and then share on social channels using #TheBigBroth.

Richard Utting, Centrepoint’s Events Director said: “We’re encouraging contract caterers to join forces with Centrepoint to help promote The Big Broth Soupathon at their sites up and down the country. With the simple addition of a ‘Smile Station’ we’re sure that consumers won’t mind paying a little extra to put a smile on their soup in order to help the 86,000 young people who are at risk of homelessness every year.”

Contract caterer, Talkington Bates have signed up to the initiative, Managing Director, Paul Bates said: “Talkington Bates is happy to get behind such a worthwhile campaign, homelessness is a problem which can effect anyone and we’re happy to be part of Soupathon and help them reach their target of 30,000 bowls of soup.

“Soup is an important part of our lunchtime offer and The Big Broth Soupathon is a great opportunity to promote the many benefits of soup. We’ll certainly be encouraging our diners to make a donation and ‘share a smile’ when they buy soup. I’m sure other contract caterers will get on board and do their bit to help raise money and support the good work which Centrepoint does with 16-25 year olds.”

Contract caterers wanting to take part and add a ‘Smile Station’ this November can register to be part of the first ever Big Broth Soupathon by emailing: thebigbroth@centrepoint.org with the subject heading ‘Contract Caterer’ to receive a fundraising pack which contains posters, flyers and collection boxes.
