The UK Sustainability & Resource Industry Awards, organised by the Chartered Institute of Wastes Management (CIWM) on behalf of the industry, recognise and reward innovation, achievement and best practice in the sustainable management of waste and resources, both within the waste sector and across a range of client sectors including retail and fast moving consumer goods (FMCG), construction and facilities management (FM).
For those working in the FM sector, it is a chance to showcase innovative approaches to waste and resource management, include food and packaging waste initiatives, customer communications, and supply chain and logistics solutions. Last year’s winners included Westfield Shopping Centre, in partnership with WasteSolve, for their efforts to segregate 100% of all food waste and divert significant amounts of waste from landfill into re-use and reprocessing, and Élan Hair Design, which has implemented a comprehensive environmental strategy at its north-east salon energy, water and waste.
CIWM Chief Executive Steve Lee, commented:
“UK businesses are increasingly tuned in to the fact that more sustainable waste and resource management practices deliver real economic and environmental benefits, as well as boosting corporate image.
“These awards showcase and celebrate efforts across the spectrum, from large corporate organisations through to small businesses and individuals; each one has gone the extra mile to make a difference.”
Anyone with an interesting FM waste management project can enter this year’s awards, which cover 12 categories including, Sustainable Facilities Management, Zero Waste, Innovation, and Energy Recovery.
The closing date for entries is 15 August 2014.
