Cofely has been awarded a five year contract to deliver technical services to The Shard – the tallest building in Western Europe.
The Shard is a 95 storey, 110,000 sq. metre (1,200,000 sq. ft) vertical city containing retail, world class offices, international restaurants, five star hotel, an exclusive collection of residences and the capital’s highest viewing galleries, standing at 310 metres high (1,016 ft) and is at the heart of London Bridge Quarter, a new two million sq. ft commercial district on London’s Southbank.
Cofely will be working closely with London Bridge Quarter (LBQ) Estates Management team during an initial mobilisation phase, ready for the first tenants being operational 2013.
In addition to day-to-day maintenance of services, Cofely will play a key role in ensuring the buildings maintain their exceptional environmental performance and low carbon footprint.
As well as optimising the performance of the 1.5MW combined heat and power plant at The Shard, Cofely will pro-actively evaluate energy performance throughout the London Bridge Quarter Development. The company will also liaise directly with LBQ Estate Management and tenants in delivering energy efficiency innovations wherever possible with a view to achieving continuous improvement.
Cofely UK CEO Colin Hale, commented: “We appreciate Sellar and LBQ Estates giving us the opportunity to provide them with full technical support on this highly complex building in their London Bridge Quarter development. We now maintain the world’s tallest building in the Burj Khalifa in Dubai, Western Europe’s tallest at The Shard and also the iconic 30 St. Mary’s Axe (The Gherkin) in the City. We can put this unrivalled experience to work for the benefit of our demanding and valued customers in all of these locations.”
