The Director of Public Sector Affairs at Sodexo, Deborah Rowland, has joined the board of trustees for the IFMA Foundation, a non-profit dedicated to making facility management (FM) a career of choice.
Speaking exclusively to FMJ she said: “I joined the IFMA Foundation Board as a trustee three years ago and continue to be an active member. My reason for joining was to ensure that we continue to promote and raise the bar for the profession of FM. In addition, RICS and IFMA having a joint agreement was an incredibly important step in making sure FM has a global presence. Equally I want to ensure that the IFMA Foundation continues to have a UK and European focus to its work”
Rowland, who currently co-ordinates the public sector activities for Sodexo and manages government relationships in the UK been a thought leader in FM in this country for decades. She was previously Director of Facilities Management for the Ministry of Justice and prior to that was Head of FM Policy and Strategy in the Cabinet Office.
She developed an FM Strategy with central government departments across a spend of £3.2 billion for the central government estate to drive out efficiencies. During her time in government she completed the Major Projects Leadership Academy programme at Oxford Said Business School. Also representing the UK is Alexi Marmot of the Bartlett Global Centre for Learning Environment, based at University College London.
