Double award win for Aramark at the 2021 waste2zero awards

Aramark UK has won two awards at Footprint’s Waste2zero Awards, for its work in the management and prevention of waste.

The foodservice and workplace solutions provider was successful in winning the Best Recycling Project Award and the Best Waste Project Communication & Stakeholder Engagement Award. Aramark was also high commended in the Best Waste Management Project Award category.

Aramark Defence Services (ADS), in partnership with Greenzone and stakeholders within the Defence Infrastructure Organisation (DIO), part of the UK Ministry of Defence, developed and integrated a sustainability plan that focused on waste management. The project involved training, signage, introduction of increased glass recycling and food waste recycling, and much more. There was significant behavioural change management required across 50,000 troops and 9,000 Aramark employees.

Glyn Ingram, Defence and Judicial Sector Director, commented: “It was an honour to have members of the Defence team present at the Waste2zero awards to see Aramark Northern Europe pick up two awards and get highly commended in a third category. All of the teams in the Defence sector have worked so hard in the area of waste management with our clients, and I am extremely proud of this achievement. In the week that COP26 takes the headlines, it’s great to be recognised for the work that we do in supporting such an important topic.”

Helen Milligan-Smith, Managing Director, Food Services & Defence Services UK said: “We are very proud of this achievement. We work very hard every day to reduce our environmental footprint. Aramark has taken the necessary steps to implement new ways of working, driving awareness by educating both our people and clients on what steps can be taken to make a difference, working collaboratively to achieve our collective results and goals.

“However, our work doesn’t stop here. We will continue to look at ways we can reduce our impact on the environment and hope to inspire other businesses to take the important steps to support a better tomorrow and a healthier planet.”

Celebrating excellence in waste management and prevention, the Waste2Zero awards provide the food service and out of home sector with a platform for recognition and to showcase best practice and leadership.
