enModus signs smart buildings agreement with E.ON

E.ON Connecting Energies GmbH has signed an agreement with UK-based smart building solutions provider enModus.

The Smart Buildings market is forecast to reach over $20.8 billion globally in 2022, according to an IHS Markit study. Chepstow-based enModus makes buildings smart by transforming the existing mains power lines into a building-wide communications network. It has a growing UK customer base and its most recent successes include Volvo, Virgin Media and women’s accessories retailer claire’s.

Andy Heaton, CEO and co-founder of enModus, commented: “This is a momentous agreement in the enModus growth plan and the smart buildings industry. E.ON is the right partner for us to deliver energy savings to businesses in Europe. They have a vision of transforming yesterday’s power lines into tomorrow’s smart energy networks and enModus has Wattwave our patented power line communications technology to deliver that connectivity.”

The first joint installation of the enModus solution was implemented in January 2019 at the E.ON Research Centre which is part of the RWTH Aachen University, Germany. The solution will provide connected lighting and occupancy mapping as the buildings initial stage of smart-ness. Additional smart technologies will be integrated to drive energy efficiency and improve the occupants wellbeing.

Garance Emmerich-Bundel, Head of Product Management and Engineering, E.ON Connecting Energies GmbH, said: “At E.ON we create imaginative energy solutions that help our business customers prosper. The agreement with enModus gives us the opportunity to offer our customers new solutions that drive energy efficiency and reduced carbon emissions.”
