Premier AV solutions provider, GV Multimedia, has been ‘highly commended’ in the recent AV Industry awards in the category of Education Project of the Year Award for its installation at University College Falmouth’s Academy of Innovation and Research (AIR). The bespoke, networked AV solution, that facilitates collaborative working on site and remotely, is now helping the University in its aim to become one of the top five creative institutions in the world.
“We have installed a technologically advanced AV infrastructure throughout the entire AIR building,” explains Lilian Cutting, managing director, GV Multimedia. “At the heart of AIR is the Sandpit, a room designed to satisfy University College Falmouth’s need for a truly flexible working environment that allows all members of the digital community to converge and share ideas and information in one space.”
The new build will now house PhD students as well as become a focal point for businesses, allowing them to take advantage of facilities including the use of advanced AV technology, presentation space, video conferencing and live media streaming. Every detail has been considered for ease of use, even down to the inclusion of interactive glass writing boards designed to digitally capture all dry wipe pen text directly onto the connected PCs.
The system’s backbone is a controlled Crestron 32×32 Digital Media matrix with 11 floor boxes across the building which have the ability to transmit VGA, HDMI, audio and USB to the matrix, plus five local inputs within the Sandpit room its self with the same ability. Each floor box also has the ability to receive HD video and audio from the matrix. This allows work to take place away from the main Sandpit and also be shared throughout the entire building. For remote working areas, five mobile trolleys can be connected to the floor boxes. This allows the technology-rich Sandpit to be flexible for team collaboration, learning and discussions on a global scale using multiple video conferencing stations and a dedicated media streaming server.
The five stations within the Sandpit, have been created with the ability to control, share and manipulate media. Each station boasts a 55 inch LG Smart TV full HD panel which is 3D enabled allowing the users to work within a 3D immersive environment. The station’s content can then be shared across any location within the matrix including across the internet via media streaming, as well as this, there is the ability to mirror users’ personal iPad’s output to the 55-inch screen at the touch of a button.
“The team at University College Falmouth is delighted with the work carried out by GV Multimedia,” confirms Jeremy Richards, head of innovation at AIR. “The Company has helped us not only achieve our initial goals for AIR but to surpass them. As a result, we now have a technologically advanced, future-proofed design, bringing University College Falmouth one step closer to becoming a word-class campus.”
