Health and safety manager appointment at Homes for Students

National student accommodation manager, Homes for Students, has appointed Patrick Ryan as Health and Safety Manager for the company’s nationwide portfolio of 20,000 student beds.

Ryan joins the company after running his own risk assessment consultancy providing health and safety and fire risk assessments and property condition reports; and previously served as a firefighter with County Durham and Darlington Fire Service.

Working alongside Homes for Students’ recently appointed Compliance Director, Mandy Blackburn, Ryan will be responsible for managing all aspects of health and safety across the group, including Homes for Students and Prestige Student Living properties and ensuring compliance across all the company’s business areas, including 14 new-build handovers of 3,758 beds during September 2019.

Commenting on Ryan’s appointment, Blackburn said: “Patrick joins the business at an exciting time and brings a wide range of expertise to support Homes for Students’ growth plans with student bed numbers under management expected to reach 30,000 by the end of 2020.”

Homes for Students’ unique service proposition is based on taking the risk on facilities management costs allowing the company to concentrate on sales and marketing at each property, which is incentivised by a sharing in revenue above agreed target net operating incomes.
