Helistrat puts best foot forward with schuh

Environmental consultancy and contract manager, Helistrat, has won a five-year waste and recycling contract with footwear retailer schuh.

The contract will see a phased implementation which will start with the company’s two distribution centres in Bathgate and Livingston and a number of Scottish stores. This will immediately enable them to divert 100 per cent of their waste from landfill.

Over the course of 2018 Helistrat will take all 136 of schuh’s high street stores to a completely landfill free solution.

Throughout the contract Helistrat and schuh will work to develop and implement a number of initiatives including the backhauling of cardboard from stores, the development of closed-loop packaging solutions and the recycling of other waste streams such as coffee grinds. schuh will also benefit from an increased level of accurate and on-time waste data to demonstrate the financial and environmental benefits of the service and support the development of future sustainability initiatives.

Commenting on the award of the contract Helistrat’s CEO, Harvey Laud, said: “Helistrat and schuh hold a shared belief that doing the right thing environmentally also enables a business to improve its financial performance and further strengthen its brand in the eyes of its customers and other stakeholders. Finding ways to create value from the waste we produce, and using it to develop more circular business models, make sound commercial sense against a backdrop of diminishing natural resources and escalating prices. We look forward to eliminating waste to landfill and developing some exciting and creative new initiatives with schuh over the course of what we hope will be a long relationship.”
