Ideas for change’ format meets the delegate brief at ThinkFM

On Monday 18 June 2012, over 320 individuals involved in the facilities management (FM) sector gathered together at The Royal College of Physicians in London for the second annual ThinkFM conference, organised by the British Institute of Facilities Management (BIFM), in association with Workplace Law.



The conference was billed as a day of learning, debate, interaction and networking – and certainly did not disappoint. Under the theme ‘ideas for change’ delegates were able to investigate and learn how ‘great facilities management makes the difference’.

ThinkFM speaker, Oliver Jones, Chairman of Morphose, who hosted the engaging session ‘Opportunities in Hard Times’, said: “The importance of structured networking and first class presentations to modern business was underlined this week at ThinkFM. In my role as Chairman of Morphose, an M&A advisory business that covers the FM and support services sector, it was very clear that the number and quality of attendees was excellent and illustrative of the emphasis people place on being part of the industry and wanting to ensure they know the most up to date information within our exciting and evolving market. A one day, intensive and well-structured event in an accessible location was welcomed and proved exceedingly valuable.”

Working to the popular ‘hub’ format, industry leaders and thinkers delivered over 30 sessions, on a wide range of topics from Building Information Modelling to social media. Stephen Bennett, strategy director at BIFM and member of the ThinkFM Programme Advisory Group (PAG), said: “The PAG took a considered view of the key issues facing the FM sector, and likely developments on the horizon, when we set out the programme for ThinkFM. Under the banner of ‘ideas for change’, we aimed to deliver a very strong programme to stimulate, educate and challenge the thinking of delegates. It was vital to have sessions which would generate ‘ideas for change’ – real solutions for FMs to take back to their organisations. Anecdotal feedback suggests that we met this brief for many delegates.”

Summing up ThinkFM, David Sharp, founder and managing director of Workplace Law, said: “We were delighted to be involved with this year’s ThinkFM and really pleased with the way the day went.
