Applications for the 2019 International Facility Management Association (IFMA) scholarship programme are now open.
The scholarship offers practising and aspiring facility managers a route into higher education. Students who receive the scholarship are also given complimentary registration to IFMA’s World Workplace Conference & Expo, where they can network with the FM industry’s leading professionals.
Winning recipients are divided into teams to participate in the ‘IGNITE FM! Student Challenge’. Teams are tasked with solving a complex FM problem and then asked to present their solution to an audience. The judging is carried out by FM professionals and the winning team receives a financial prize as well as recognition of their presentation.
The scholarships are open to students globally and IFMA UK are looking to actively engage with UK students to obtain the scholarship.
Former recipient Devin Shackelford, a student of Construction Management at Kennesaw State University, said: “Had it not been for the IFMA Foundation’s Scholarship programme and ‘Ignite FM! Student Challenge’ at World Workplace, I would not have the job that I have now.
“I was fortunate enough to have people from Sodexo witness and judge my presentation. Fortunately, the judges were impressed with my skills and abilities and offered me a position as an Operations Support Specialist for their Walgreens portfolio in charge of Computerised Maintenance Management Systems.”
Since 1991, the IFMA Foundation, IFMA chapters, IFMA councils and wider FM community has awarded approximately $1.7 million (c.£1.3 million) to more than 500 FM professionals.
