Interserve offloads Dunbar Energy Recovery Facility to Viridor

Interserve has handed over the first of its four energy-from-waste (EwF) plants.

The support services and construction company and its project partner Babcock & Wilcox have handed over the Dunbar renewable energy plant project to Viridor Enviroscot Ltd, which was originally scheduled to take place in December 2017.

The Dunbar Energy Recovery Facility, a municipal EfW plant, in East Lothian, Scotland can process up to 38 tons of municipal waste per hour, delivering power to thousands of homes and businesses. It will contribute towards the Scottish Government’s target of sending zero biodegradable municipal waste to landfill by 2021.

Dougie Sutherland, Executive Director at Interserve, said: “We are pleased to have completed the Dunbar project and handed it over to our customer Viridor Enviroscot Ltd. This is an important milestone in the transformation of Interserve.”

The remaining three EfW plants are still in a commissioning stage.
