J S Wright has won a contract valued at more than £3.5 million for a new harbourside development in Bristol.

The mechanical and electrical building services specialist will design and build the mechanical services for 142 high-quality apartments on a long-derelict site at McArthur’s Yard on Gas Ferry Road in the city’s historic dock area.

The £36 million project led by housebuilder Hill in association with housing provider The Guinness Partnership will deliver a mix of one to three-bedroom homes for market sale, shared ownership, and social rent, as well as ground floor commercial space.

J S Wright’s contract will involve designing and installing an energy centre with associated pipework to distribute low-temperature hot water heating to radiators in each apartment via direct single plate heat interface units (HIUs).

The company will also install a boosted cold-water system for the domestic hot and cold-water supply.

In addition, J S Wright will install energy efficient mechanical ventilation heat recovery systems, smoke ventilation and dry risers, as well as water sprinklers within residential areas.

The company will also supply and install the sanitaryware for each apartment, an internal rainwater system, and above-ground drainage.

The brief will also involve providing a building management system (BMS) incorporating a prepayment billing system for monitoring each apartment’s energy use.

Phil Leech, Managing Director of J S Wright, commented: “We are thrilled that the successful relationship we have built up with such a major housebuilder in equipping its many developments across London has been extended to Bristol.

“We now look forward to employing our specialist M&E expertise in helping to bring new much-needed high-quality energy efficient affordable homes to one of the few remaining brownfield areas of the city.”

J S Wright is due to start on site this March, with completion of the contracted work scheduled for May 2023.

Waste Management and Recycling Survey

FMJ in conjunction with Grundon Waste Management have launched the 2022 survey into how FMs approach their waste management and recycling responsibilities.

It’s the fifth year for the annual appraisal, and as we return to normal, there is a real opportunity for FMs to reappraise their waste and recycling operations and look at new, smarter waste management strategies.

In order to understand how FMs have navigated their way through the last year and their plans for meeting stringent waste and recycling targets we’ve posed a series of questions which include insights into FMs’ waste management strategy and targets, such as zero waste and landfill, the types of waste organisations produce and what helps FMs promote waste management in their organisations?

Please share your experiences and opinions on waste management. The survey will take just five minutes to complete, and as a thank you for taking part, respondents will be entered into a prize draw to win a £150 Amazon gift card.
