Laminate is winning hearts and minds

Ever-increasing numbers of people are choosing laminate as their preferred choice of floor covering. Appearance, simple installation and easy cleaning are just a few of the qualities that make laminate so popular. Laminate provides all the advantages of wood, such as the authentic look and feel, but none of its drawbacks, affirms Balterio, one of the most innovative producers of quality laminate floors.

Light colours remain in and the tone is mat
Light authentic colours have been fashionable for a considerable time, and this will continue to be the case, in laminate too. Demand for Pale colours remains high in times of an an uncertain economic future, since they give a more optimistic ambience. Moreover, lighter hues look clean, calm and have a timeless appeal.

Another dominant trend is toward natural, authentic, honest materials: concrete, porcelain, metal, wood, copper, oiled leather, matt stone. The tone is matt. Matt structures are apprearing everywhere: lacquers for automobiles, paint colours, furniture, even make-up with matt lipsticks, and so on. “In 2009 we launched the Grandeur collection, which was developed with the Chrome Zone technology of Balterio. This technology had already been introduced in 2007 on the Magnitude collection and was repeated on the Grandeur long planks collection. This technology adds a subtle gloss to the grain, imitating the appearance of an oil or stain treatment. But more and more people are opting for matt finishing, indicating a return to purity and authenticity”, notes Franky Terrijn.

Opting for authentic and classical
Smooth laminate is no longer all that popular – the trend is moving towards authentic and classical. A true-to-nature reproduction of a wood floor requires an embossing (an imprint) that imitates the structure of real wood. To achieve this Balterio developed its 3D-Wood Effect structure, which simulates the natural relief of the wood grain. Every knot and wood grain is visible and perceptible so as to allow the floor to resemble parquet even more closely. The authentic finishing with a V-groove is , particularly popular in Western Europe. Thanks to the bevelled edges, this groove achieves a perfect wood look.

A few specific examples of matt and authentic ranges within the broad Balterio collection includeInfinity, Xperience Plus and Dolce.

The new long-planks collection Infinity consists of eight mat wood designs, each with the innovative 3D-Wood Effect. Moreover, all wood patterns are combined with the True-to-Nature aspect and a 4-sided V-groove finishing. The result is the look of a solid wood plank floor.

The Xperience Plus collection replaces the Tradition Duo range, at the time one of the first collections on the market with an embossed in register (True-to-Nature) natural texture. Xperience Plus also has a matt finishing and the 3D-Wood Effect structure. The elegant 2-sided V-groove (bevelled edges along the longitudinal side of the planks) adds the finishing touch.

Dolce also comes with a fine, satin-matt structure that looks entirely natural in combination with the 8 different décors. A True-to-Nature® texture or an all-over structure was chosen depending on the décor.

Laminate is in

Laminate is in. It assures comfort, it’s wear-resistant, budget-friendly and virtually indistinguishable from real wood. “We’ve conducted years of research in order to find a way to imitate real wood floors as perfectly as possible, and the results are simply stunning”, says Franky Terrijn.
