Mace sets goal to be net zero carbon in 2020

International construction and consultancy company, Mace, has announced that it will achieve net zero carbon emissions in 2020.

The ambitious target will see the company reduce its carbon emissions across its own development and operations as far as possible and offset all outstanding emissions to Gold Standard.

The net zero carbon objective builds on Mace signing up to the RE100 commitment in 2017 – a global initiative to encourage organisations to use 100 per cent renewable energy.

Mace says it will be seeking opportunities to accelerate the adoption of solutions to reduce carbon emissions. Alongside this, the company will also be supporting its clients, partners and supply chain to embrace and implement low carbon solutions associated with construction and infrastructure projects.

The strategy, called ‘Steps without footprints’, will see Mace work to ‘Reduce, Transform, Investigate and Influence’ to achieve net zero carbon emissions in construction and built environment.

Mace’s strategy explores different approaches to tackle the challenges of energy use, embodied carbon, including the decarbonisation of heating and cooling systems, business travel and water and waste.

Ross Abbate, CEO of Mace Macro, said: “Achieving Net Zero Carbon by end of 2020 is Mace’s strongest commitment to changing the way we develop, deliver and operate buildings. Leading a sustainable approach to facilities management at Mace has always been our top priority, and we are excited to work towards such an ambitious Net Zero Carbon target.”
