THE OFFICIAL NEWSPAPER OF THE FACILITIES SHOW 2019 WEDBESDAY 19 JUNE 2019
WEDNESDAY HIGHLIGHTS WHY VISIT?
KEYNOTE SPEAKER OF THE DAY
On day two of the Facilities Show our inspirational
speaker will be Michael Edwards, better known as
Eddie the Eagle, whose heroic underdog efforts in the
ski jumping competition at the 1988 Winter Olympics
have earned him a place in British sporting legend.
There is always the risk of failing when you’re trying
something new, and in the case of Eddie the Eagle,
his ambitions also put him at risk of severe injury.
Not landing the 90-meter jump at the Calgary Winter
Olympics could have had terrible consequences, but
his most serious injury was caused by something
completely different.
While Eddie’s speech focuses on risk and safety, his
perseverance, courage and hard-work in the face of
insurmountable odds provides a universal lesson.

FACILITIES SHOW THEATRE DAY TWO
FMJ Panel: Productivity & technology
11:00 - 11:45
FMJ Magazine’s annual panel debate looks at one
of the conundrums of the age, how to solve the
productivity puzzle. A report, Solving the UK’s
productivity puzzle in the digital age, published by the
McKinsey Global Institute last year argued that our
“uneven digitisation” is one of the reasons behind the
UK productivity gap. Could the FM sector be playing
a much stronger role in helping to boost productivity
within businesses? How can technologies such
as CAFM, sensors and other forms of prop tech be
deployed to improve performance for clients and FM
services providers?
On the panel:
Compton Darlington, Business Development Director,
FSI. Simon Francis, Principal Lead, Estates and Masterplanning,
Zoological Society of London. Alejandro
Navarro, Director of Products & Analytics - Connected
Workspace, Mitie. Paul Wilkinson Technical/FM writer
Empowering People & Workplaces.
Empowering People & Workplaces
11:55 - 12:25
We’re delighted to announce that our latest FMJ
Editorial Steering member Simone Fenton-Jarvis,
Workplace Services Consultancy Development Director
at Ricoh will examine research carried out by Ricoh, in
partnership with Oxford Economics. This suggested
that people working using the right workstyle would
unlock £39.8 billion in the UK Economy. Simone will
discuss the key findings of the research, case study
material and provide some key takeaways for you to
raise the productivity of people through empowering
them and the workplace.
Panel: Outsourcing – is TFM still a trend?
13:15 - 14:00
The June issue of FMJ looks at how Stansted Airport’s
FM team has successfully in-sourced its cleaning and
maintenance so it’s apt that one of the key speakers
at today’s debate is Roy Elphick, Asset Maintenance
Services Director at Stansted Airport. Other panellists
comprise; Nigel Lucker, Overseas Head of Operations,
Foreign and Commonwealth Office. Graham Peel,
MD of Integrated Solutions, Atalian Servest and Mark
Sutcliffe MD of the Integrator KBR.
