THE OFFICIAL NEWSPAPER OF THE FACILITIES SHOW 2019 THURSDAY 20 JUNE 2019
THURSDAY HIGHLIGHTS PRODUCTIVE KEYNOTE SPEAKER OF THE DAY
DEBATE
Rugby hero Jonny Wilkinson, who famously helped
his country to a World Cup title in 2003 takes to the
stage on this, the last day of the show. Jonny will
share stories and lessons from his long and successful
professional career, but it’s the honesty with which
he has grappled with his mental health struggles in a
male-dominated industry that makes this essential
viewing. Much of Jonny’s success on the field took
its psychological toll. He has dealt with depression,
anxiety and panic attacks. As facilities management
adapts to an increased focus on workplace wellbeing
as reflected elsewhere in the show, with the dedicated
Workplace Wellbeing Show – Jonny’s experiences
will help FMs apply his learning to their key role in
promoting a healthier, happier workplace.

FACILITIES SHOW THEATRE DAY THREE
Panel: Skills & talent in FM
11:00 - 11:45
The facilities management sector could be facing
a recruitment crisis, so the Facilities Management
Theatre brings together a top tier of people from the
sector to discuss, where is the next generation of FM
talent going to come from? How can FM attract top
talent? And how will Brexit impact people in FM?
On the panel:
Ashley Adams, Head of Talent & Resourcing, CBRE
Global Workplace Solutions (GWS). Oren Gershon,
MD, O.M.G Consultancy. Jacob Grainger, Principal
Consultant, BuildRecruitment. Lucy Jeynes, MD Larch
Consulting / Board member of IFMA UK. Deborah
Rowland, Director of Public Sector Affairs, Sodexo.
Panel: Company culture, recognition and getting
a seat in the board room
11:55 - 12:40
A perennial question for FMs is how do we get proper
recognition in the board room? Perhaps the more
pertinent question would be, how do we make sure
FMs provide value, and prove it? And when it comes to
it, how can you boost your personal brand? A panel of
speakers comprising, Gregory Blondeau of Proxyclick,
Matt Chapman of Atalian Servest, Coleen Cloherty
of Build Recruitment, Craig Hatch of WYG and Simon
Iatrou of Magenta Associates will discuss the question.
Talking the language of your customer
12:50 - 13:20
Erik Jaspers, Director of Global Product Strategy &
Innovation AT Planon discusses how customer & user
centricity has been prominently put on the FM to play
a role in the battle for talent, both to attract and retain
talent. But the new generations of FM professionals
have different views on how they work and interact
and what ways they prefer to interact. Does FM
business software need to adapt to new modes of
interaction?
The dynamic of real leadership for sustainable
success
13:30 - 14:00
FM stalwart Geoff Prudence, Director, Chairman-
Property, FM & Building Services Groups, will share
his views and experience in his straight-talking style,
discussing concepts, examples and from his wide range
of industry experience, giving support to attendees
on pitfalls, techniques and signposting further
opportunities for development. Todays programme

The FMJ panel debate, which took place at
the Facilites Management Theatre during
yesterday’s show, featured a discussion
on how technology can help improve
productivity. There was a range of views from
an FM service provider, a client side FM and
a CAFM supplier. Technical FM writer Paul
Wilkinson who chaired the event suggested
that the use of data in FM is ‘the golden thread
of information’ which can help enhance
productivity. Alejandro Navarro of Mitie
agreed, as long as there are clients who ‘are
willing to invest in data systems and analytics’
to increase workplace performance.
Compton Darlington of FSI said that the
sheer pace of technology can be a challenge for
developers and clients alike and FM providers
who simply look ‘for some kind of innovation’
must have a clearer idea of what that means
and what technology can bring to improve FM
services.
Simon Francis of the Zoological Society of
London remarked that one of the greatest
issues for FMs in managing estates is
identifying their assets, especially on older
legacy estates, where asset data is needed to
help devise an efficient maintenance strategy.
IoT is may be a useful tool, the panel
concurred, but understanding the information
it produces is the key to success.
