Manager at Jagex will debate, how do we make sure

AI IN THE WORKPLACE
Your people can be your best asset but you
have to equip them properly and look a er
them well. That was one of the overriding
messages in the latest Quora Smartworking
Summits held today in the Capital Suite
alongside the Facilities Show.
The event, which featured a group of senior
business people, including CEOs Group
Property Directors, HR Directors from some
leading private and public sector organisations
including Virgin, Facebook and the HMRC was
focused on the rise of AI and how it could
impact on ways of working over the coming
years.
The good news was that we’ve nothing
to fear from AI, in fact it was argued, it could
free talented people up from mundane and
repetitive jobs.
But this doesn’t mean we exclude humans
from the equation. People, a er all are social
beings so the way in which we work must
reflect that. This rise of social media has been
embraced by many corporates, or at least those
that want to be around in the next ten years.
We heard all about the impact Workplace
Facebook has had on many corporate cultures,
where sta are free to share stories, ideas and
complaints in a sort of digital ‘safe space.’
Delegates were also reminded during the
morning that’s it not just the much talked
about Gen Y we have to cater for in the future
but the up and coming Gen Z, which, research
suggests will be a very di erent worker from
what has come before; from preferring their
own private o ice (what happens to openplan?)
to having an innate fear of missing out.
No matter what the changes brought
about by tech however, we would do well to
remember that if you’re going to give people
a voice via the latest apps, you’ve to be an
authentic employer and be sure to listen to
what they want.
