Managing Director of International Workplace, David Sharp, is taking on the world’s oldest ultramarathon this weekend, to raise funds for the Worshipful Company of Pattenmakers Charitable Foundation.
A Fellow of BIFM and the Chartered Institute of Marketing, Sharp is taking part in the Comrades Marathon, a 56-mile test of endurance through the hills between Pietermartizburg and Durban. Known as the ‘ultimate human race’, this will be the 93rd running of the event, which started in 1921.
On Wednesday (6 June) Sharp received a cheque from luxury spa and hotels operator, Champneys, who join facilities management service provider OCS as one of his corporate sponsors, along with online agency Genie Ventures. Sharp is looking to raise a minimum of £2,500 for the Pattenmakers, who support injured armed services personnel and other good causes.
Setting off for South Africa, he commented: “I’ve been training hard for this event for five months. The last few weeks have been difficult however, as I suffered a heavy cold and then a calf strain, which curtailed my training a little. That means the Comrades will be more than twice as far as I’ve ever run before. I’m very nervous, but at the same time looking forward to enjoying what is one of the most famous running events in the world.
“I feel very privileged to be running this event on behalf of the Worshipful Company of Pattenmakers Charitable Foundation, and I’d like to thank OCS, Champneys, Genie Ventures and my other sponsors for their support.”
