Medirest, part of Compass Group UK & Ireland, has renewed its contract with the Royal Free London NHS Foundation Trust and Barnet, Enfield & Haringey Mental Health Trust for a further five years.
The deal valued at £35 million, will see Medirest continue to deliver a range of catering and support services to the two Trusts, having already worked with these organisations at Chase Farm since 1997.
Within the new contract Medirest, provider of catering and soft services to the NHS and wider UK healthcare market, will continue to deliver portering, catering, retail, security, grounds and gardens maintenance, domestic and window cleaning, pest control and postal services.
The new contract includes an addition of four extra sites, taking the total number covered to 14 including St Ann’s and Chase Farm Hospital.
Services will be delivered by a team of 400 Medirest colleagues, for over 3000 staff across the Royal Free London and Barnet, Enfield & Haringey Mental Health Trust, as well as their patients and daily visitors to the 14 sites.
Medirest’s extended partnership with the Trusts will also see the introduction of an innovative, online food ordering system. This will work alongside the patient dining offer Steamplicity, which is a unique patented cooking system that steams food in a fast, healthy, nutritious way whilst saving energy, space and reducing waste.
Medirest will also rebrand the existing restaurants to reflect an enhanced health and wellbeing approach and develop a new retail shop.
Steve Cenci, managing director, healthcare at Compass Group UK & Ireland commented:
“Over the life of the contract we’ve developed a really successful partnership with our clients at the Trusts and with the teams at the hospital sites we work in. We’ve got a great team in place across this contract and I’m really proud of the high levels of service and quality we deliver day in day out. We’re now looking to build on our track record and the introduction of the online ordering system, as well as new restaurants and retail solutions are key parts of this plan.”
Martyn Jeffery of the Royal Free London NHS Trust said:
“We’re going to see a lot of redevelopment across this site over the next few years and teaming up with Medirest will help reflect these changes in more aspects of our service – such as the innovative food ordering initiative and the patient dining system.”
