Mitie has landed a two-year contract extension with London City Airport, London’s most central airport.
Mitie has provided security at the airport since 2016 and will continue to provide behind the scenes security services by screening thousands of baggage items every day along with manned guarding and access control to the 120 acre site once the airport closes at night.
Passenger assistance is also an important part of the security service provided by Mitie. Over 20,000 disabled passengers are transported directly from the curb side through to the aircraft every year. As part of the airport’s aim to be the most accessible airport in the UK, Mitie’s Passengers with Reduced Mobility (PRM) team will continue to work closely with the client to spearhead this important service, implementing a range of initiatives to better improve the flying experience for disabled passengers.
As part of the contract, all 64 Mitie employees contracted directly by the airport have been uplifted to London Living Wage, £10.75 per hour, following the airport’s Living Wage accreditation in March this year. London City Airport is also an early adopter of the Mayor of London’s Good Work Standard, a commitment to achieve a set of best practice employment benchmarks. This marks London City Airport as the first UK airport to achieve both milestones.
