The Competition and Markets Authority (CMA) has published an update on its review of Mitie’s acquisition of Interserve’s Facilities Management business giving clearance for the transaction to proceed.
The CMA has decided on the information currently available to it, “not to refer” the merger to a phase 2 investigation under the provisions of the Enterprise Act 2002.
The transaction now remains subject to the approval of Mitie’s shareholders with the vote being held on 23 November.
Subject to approval, Mitie expects the deal to be complete on 30 November.
Speaking about the news, Phil Bentley CEO, Mitie said: “We welcome the announcement from the CMA confirming that it has provided merger clearance for our acquisition of Interserve FM.
“Receiving CMA clearance is an important milestone as we work towards completion of the transaction.”
The CMA launched an inquiry into the anticipated acquisition of Interserve’s Support Services division by Mitie back in September to discover whether the deal would reduce competition in the FM sector.
FMJ has teamed up with Zip Water, creator of award-winning sustainable drinking water systems, to discuss the ways in which FMs can safeguard the provision of essential amenities within the workplace as we emerge into a new era of touch-free, socially distanced offices.
During the event, which will feature a panel of leading FMs and an FM services provider, we will discuss how FM professionals, office managers and HR managers can balance the need to manage shared spaces, such as staff kitchens, while maintaining a safe environment and meeting energy and waste reduction targets. This will include a look at some of the latest touch-free technologies; including apps to manage workflow and hands-free automation (e.g. automatic doors, taps etc).
Join us on Wednesday 25th November at 11:00am for an event which will address the ways FMs can meet their commitment to ensure the wellbeing of people as an integral part of their sustainability remit.
