Motorway inclusion arrives at Gloucester Services southbound

The UK’s only major independent motorway services operator has further enhanced its quality offering for customers by adding a state-of-the-art disabled toilet facility.

Gloucester Services has opened a Changing Places assisted accessible toilet, on the southbound side of its site on the M5 motorway. It represents the second such facility provided by the operator and reinforces the ‘five star’ rating the site already has from VisitEngland.

Supplied and installed by the UK’s leading provider of accessible toilet solutions, Closomat, the new facility offers more space, and additional equipment (eg a ceiling track hoist, height adjustable washbasin, height adjustable changing bench) to enable people who need support to go to the toilet with dignity when away from home.

“We know the new Changing Places toilet will make a difference to thousands of people who rely on these facilities,” said Paul Tidswell, operations director at Westmorland. “We strongly believe that every person who visits our services- whether to take a break during a journey, or as a specific destination- should have the dignity of access to appropriate facilities.”

Addes Vicci Livingstone-Thompsoin, CEO of Inclusion Gloucestershire, “It’s easy to take for granted that we can just go where we like, when we like, without having to think about toilets. Changing Places are not just toilet facilities. They offer dignity, and safety. They’re the ability to unlock the real potential for life, to get out and do things most of us take for granted.”

Currently only about 20 motorway services offer Changing Places facilities, but the number is increasing, with the specialist toilet facilities now available up and down, and across the UK. Closomat is the major provider, having completed projects for Roadchef, MOTO and Cornwall Services in addition to Westmorland on the motorway network, and beyond, for names such as IKEA, JD Wetherspoon, Alton Towers, Legoland.

Closomat has become the ‘go to’ company for Changing Places. It was the original sponsor of the Changing Places campaign a decade ago; its website www.clos-o-mat.com is an exemplar resource for campaigners, providers and specifiers alike, with a raft of support information including white papers, calling cards, CAD blocks, video and case studies.

Uniquely, the company can provide an in-house, ‘one- stop-shop’ complete package for ‘away from home’ assisted accessible toilet facilities, including Changing Places and Space to Change, from design and commissioning, through to project management, supply and installation. It is also unique in being able to additionally provide subsequent maintenance and repair.
