Eco charity and social enterprise Bioregional, has launched Build a better future with the SDGs, a new, free guide that provides practical tips on how the built environment sector can bring the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) into their businesses. The SDGs were agreed by world governments in September 2015 and are the first global blueprint for tackling climate change, reducing poverty and inequality and creating a better future for everyone on the planet.
Using expertise developed from its four-year formal role in the UN process that created SDGs, Bioregional has created a straightforward and practical guide that breaks down the subject into accessible sections, relating directly to companies in the built environment sector.
The guide explains why the Goals matter, how they are relevant to the sector and shares how companies including Cundall and Rockwool are already working with the SDGs. In addition, Bioregional’s guide details the practical steps organisations can take to get started and how they can measure and report on the process.
Explains Bioregional’s CEO, Sue Riddlestone, OBE: “We all know that the built environment sector has an essential, even urgent, role to play in delivering on our climate change targets and making it easy to live and work in a sustainable way. The industry knows how to create sustainable buildings and communities, as well as how to address other SDGs like gender equality. I believe Build a better future with the SDGs will help construction and property companies make real, positive impacts by understanding and implementing SDGs.”
