Restore Records Management has secured a contract with the Department for Work and Pensions (DWP) for the transfer of approximately 375,000 boxes of records into off-site storage and the provision of retrieval services.

The three-year contract, worth c£1.9 million a year, will see records moved away from DWP’S on-site location at Heywood Stores, near Manchester, for the first time. They will be transferred to a specialist Restore facility, also in the Northwest of England, with migration beginning in November 2022.

The contract includes 600 file retrievals and returns per day, allowing the DWP – the UK’s biggest public service department – to access information on demand. Secure destruction services will also be provided in line with the DWP retention policy.

Restore has been working with the DWP since June 2021, having won a tender for the on-site auditing of its inventory.

Commenting on the contract award, Nigel Dews, Managing Director at Restore Records Management, said: “This is another exciting and important contract win, which extends and enhances our existing relationship with the Department for Work and Pensions.

“Our flexible approach and ability to find solutions was key and we are delighted to be chosen for this project. These are exciting times at Restore Records Management.”

The news comes just weeks after Restore, the largest UK-owned records management company, announced a 10-year deal to manage more than 10 million archive assets for the BBC.
