Robertson, the integrated infrastructure, support services and construction group, has been awarded a three-year facilities management (FM) contract worth £450,000 with Teesside University’s Darlington campus.
Under the terms of the deal, Robertson will be responsible for delivering soft FM for the campus including security, catering, portering and cleaning functions. The contract allows for additional staff to be employed, adding to the existing team’s size.
As part of a wider commitment to the local community, Robertson Facilities Management will also be working with the University to provide apprenticeships and work experience programmes to students currently studying at the Darlington campus.
The £13 million, five storey Darlington campus opened its doors in 2011 and is a nationally renowned hub for the University’s business-facing activities, providing a single point of contact to access all R&D, training and professional education support. It boasts state-of-the-art equipment, library, break out areas and a cafe, as well as facilities for businesses, short courses, conference activities and special events.
Robertson Facilities Management managing director, Ian Gibson, said:
“The Darlington Campus is fundamental to developing an improved gateway to higher education for individuals and employers in the region and we’re glad to play a role in ensuring services run smoothly.”
“The Teesside contract represents part of a wider strategic move from Robertson Facilities Management to move into higher education where we can use our existing experience of working with 98 primary and secondary schools to provide the best FM service possible to colleges and universities.”
Assistant director of catering and commercial services at Teesside University, Jayne Bowers, said:
“The campus covers more than 4,000 square metres so it was important to choose an FM provider who had the right experience within the education sector in order to ensure the upkeep of what is almost a brand new building.”
“We’re looking forward to working with Robertson Facilities Management and in particular, it’s a bonus to be able to give students additional work experience and training opportunities available through the contract.”
