Senior Hires boost environmental biotech business Advetec

Environmental biotechnology company Advetec has made two high-profile senior hires as part of the business’s ambitious plans for growth. Dr Stephen Wise joins the business as Chief Product Officer after three years with independent environment and management consultants, Ceres EMC and Lee Knott joins as Chief Commercial Officer from energy and sustainability consultancy, Inenco Group.

Both will help the business to showcase its unique in-vessel aerobic solution for the treatment of mixed residual waste in the food, retail, entertainment, leisure and healthcare sectors as well as forge new collaborative relationships with other waste handlers and facilities management operators.

With a broad understanding and experience of waste treatment and how the waste management chain operates, Dr Wise will be instrumental in helping Advetec support clients with the cost-effective reduction of waste sent to landfill and improved environmental performance.

Dr Wise has had an illustrious career in the waste and renewables sector to date. He has delivered more than £500m of waste treatment infrastructure for both the public and private sectors while working for some of the UK’s largest waste management companies, utilities firms and consultancies.

He is also a board member for the Industrial Biotechnology and Innovation Centre (IBioIC) and the Composting and Anaerobic Digestion Association of Ireland (Cre), as well as an industrial panel advisor to Cranfield University and an active member of CIWM.

Speaking of his new role, Dr Stephen Wise said: “Advetec’s technology is ground-breaking. The combination of smart technology and biotech is dynamic and capable of achieving game-changing benefits for clients. I look forward to working closely with the team to play our part in helping create a better, more sustainable planet.”

Lee Knott has a 20 year background in technology as well as vast experience of sales and marketing, having held a number of director-level positions. Prior to joining Advetec, Lee led Inenco Group’s transition to become a full energy consultancy and has considerable expertise in sustainable strategies and carbon footprint reduction.

As Chief Commercial Officer, Lee is now charged with accelerating Advetec’s growth, expanding market reach and helping customers achieve their commercial and sustainability goals.

He said: “Despite increased awareness and changes to waste management processes – the nation still sends more than 26million tonnes of waste to be buried or burned. Education and innovation across the whole supply chain are at the heart of affecting positive change and I’m eager drive the next stage in Advetec’s evolution and the sector’s carbon reduction efforts.”

Jim Lovett, Chief Executive Officer of Advetec concluded: “Having now secured second round funding, we have an exciting opportunity to scale-up and expand our presence in key markets as well as with important stakeholders and other waste handlers in the market. With the expertise and insights of both Lee and Stephen we can help customers take confident steps toward net zero carbon and zero to landfill.”

FMJ will be hosting a webinar with Advetec in November to discuss ways biotechnology is helping FMs achieve their sustainability goals and reduce waste.
