Sodexo unveils Kitchen Works Co.

Sodexo has launched a new food offer to meet the needs of employees in manufacturing and data centre environments.

Kitchen Works Co. has been developed using the latest consumer insight and offers nutritious and tasty food in a dining space where colleagues can refuel, recharge and regroup away from their day-to-day tasks.

The first Kitchen Works Co. restaurant opened this last week at Toyota’s Burnaston manufacturing site in Derby. Sodexo invested in the refurbishment of the main restaurant, which caters for the 2,600 workers. It includes a new and improved lay-out, digital screens and new furniture as well as a brand new menu which also includes using rescued fruit and vegetables as part of Sodexo’s Wasteful to Tasteful initiative.

Sodexo’s own research among automotive workers in 2017 revealed that 64 per cent were aware that their performance and productivity was directly related to what and when they eat and 68 per cent regard the quality of food provided as important, but only 32 per cent felt well-catered for by their organisation.

To address this, Kitchen Works Co. delivers a wide range of meal options featuring global cuisine, plant-based dishes ideal for those following a vegetarian and flexitarian diet and a new grab-and-go range. Traditional favourites such as sausage and mash will be served alongside hero dishes such as Chipotle Glazed Belly Pork with Gratin Potatoes & Sautéed Courgettes and Chicken Katsu curry and rice.

James Mundy, Marketing Manager, Corporate Services, Sodexo UK & Ireland commented: “Kitchen Works Co. takes its inspiration from modern quick service restaurants with a home-from-home feel. It has been created to provide a mix of familiar favourites with more aspirational dishes in a relaxing environment. With sustainability a key concern for many we are pleased that our chefs will be using ‘wonky’ fruit and veg which not only allows them to be inspired by in-season produce but enables them to use their creativity and culinary skill to create some delicious dishes for the Burnaston workforce.”

Christine Cooke, Senior Manager, Purchasing at Toyota said: “We are delighted with our new Kitchen Works Co. restaurant which will vastly improve the employee experience for our colleagues at Burnaston. It is critical we attract and retain talent at this key manufacturing base for us and giving them access to great, healthy food, in a nice environment and in a way that allows them to maximise their downtime is a vital part of that mix.
