Talkington Bates has secured two new catering contracts with a combined turnover of £1 million, and landed itself a contract extension following a 65 per cent sales uplift.
The caterer has been awarded a new contract with RSPCA Assured, the RSPCA’s farm assurance and food labelling scheme at 10 of the biggest UK festivals over the summer, along with a two-year contract for NGK Spark Plugs (UK), based in Hemel Hempstead.
Working with RSPCA Assured, Talkington Bates will enter the festival catering arena for the first time. The company will take charge of the onsite African food offering, Yassa Hut, which RSPCA Assured will supply during the summer 2017 festival season. The catering provision will include a varied, all-day dining menu for festival goers including street food favourites, along with some new flavours such as Yassa Spit Roast Pork and Grilled Gambian Chicken Skewers with Sweet Potatoes Wedges and Jallof Rice, plus a host of breakfast and snack options.
It is anticipated Yassa Hut will appear at Glastonbury, Cornbury, Isle of Wight and Country File Live to name just a few.
Paul Bates, managing director of Talkington Bates, commented:
“Talkington Bates has long been associated with delivering quality food and customer service and we’re delighted to be able to broaden our catering horizons and enter into the competitive world of festival catering.”
“Innovation and diversification is always at the top of our minds and we pay particular attention to both market trends and consumer insight to ensure we are supplying cutting edge catering – this is something RSPCA Assured are already familiar with, sharing an office with the RSPCA, who we have been working with for some time. We enjoy an excellent working relationship with both companies, largely due to our similar brand values, the Talkington Bates and RSPCA Assured partnership really is a great fit!”
The second new contract, with NGK Spark Plugs (UK) will see Talkington Bates supply an entirely subsidised lunch to its staff and contractors at its Hemel Hempstead site. The caterer intends to grow the services it supplies at NGK further down the line, looking at providing ‘grab & go’ lines in the future.
In addition to the new business wins, existing client RSPCA headquarters has extended its contract with Talkington Bates for a further two years, following a 65 per cent increase in onsite catering sales by the caterer, over the last 12 months.
Commenting on the contract extension, Bates said:
“It’s always fulfilling to retain business and gain new contracts, especially working on projects that will bring ideas which we can utilise in other parts of our operation. We look forward, as a business, to the hugely exciting challenges that 2017 will bring.”
