Turner & Townsend re-appointed to Retrofit Accelerator for Workplaces programme

Turner & Townsend has been re-appointed to lead the delivery of the Mayor of London’s flagship programme Retrofit Accelerator for Workplaces.

The global professional services business will continue to work with the Greater London Authority (GLA) over the next two and a half years, to transform energy inefficient public buildings across the capital in the move towards net zero carbon.

Retrofit Accelerator for Workplaces is part of the Mayor’s Energy for Londoners programme which aims to make London’s homes warm, healthy and affordable, its workplaces more energy efficient, and to supply the capital with more local clean energy. Previously known as RE:FIT, the scheme launched in 2009 and has engaged and supported hundreds of public sector organisations – including schools, NHS bodies and government departments – to successfully retrofit buildings and reduce carbon emissions.

Turner & Townsend has been instrumental in helping the programme deliver over £100 million of investment across 700 buildings in the last 10 years. This includes projects for education (London School of Economics), local authorities (London Borough of Hounslow) and health (Epsom and St Helier University Hospitals NHS Trust).

The reappointment will see the business directly provide cost management, programme and project management, low carbon energy consulting, and business case and procurement consultancy, while also leading an expert delivery team including the Carbon Trust and Ramboll.

The value of the contract is £3 million and funded by the GLA and European Regional Development Fund.

Turner & Townsend also leads the delivery of the Mayor of London’s other Retrofit Accelerator programme which aims to transform the capital’s energy inefficient housing to create warm, affordable and ultra-low carbon homes. Retrofit Accelerator – Homes provides London boroughs and housing associations the technical expertise they need to kick-start ‘whole-house’ retrofit projects across the capital. It also helps build the supply chain and business case to accelerate the retrofit revolution for private homes.
