NEW HANDBOOK HIGHLIGHTS KEY
WASTE MANAGEMENT ISSUES FOR FMS
FMs consider waste management to be the number
one priority out of all the environmental and
sustainability issues they are accountable for,
ahead of energy management, carbon footprint
and handling hazardous materials. The results
were revealed in an exclusive survey of facilities
professionals on all things waste, recycling and
sustainability related, which was recently carried
out by Grundon Waste Management in partnership
with leading facilities management magazine FMJ.
Building on the results of the survey, Grundon and
FMJ have produced an eight-page handbook which
is being launched at this year’s Facilities Show at
London Excel. Featuring 12 easy-to-follow steps, insight from the survey and
plenty of tips and hints, it is designed to help FMs establish a detailed waste
management strategy that will deliver tangible benefits and mitigate financial
and reputational risks to their business. The handbook will be available in print
format from the Grundon stand and also as a download once the show begins.

IMPROVING THE HEALTH &
PRODUCTIVITY OF UK WORKSPACES
Camfil will be showcasing
its solutions for improving
the health and productivity
of UK workspaces. What
many people don’t realise
is that inside a building,
the concentrations of some
pollutants are up to five
times higher than outdoor air
quality, leading to lethargy
and reduced concentration,
as well as health complaints; a worrying situation considering we spend 90 per
cent of our time indoors. Focusing on ways to prevent poor indoor air quality
(IAQ), a problem which 70 per cent of off ice staff complain about, Camfil will be
helping visitors ‘see’ the invisible nasties infiltrating our airways using an onstand
Virtual Reality experience.
Stand P450
FLEXIBLE OFFICES GO MAINSTREAM
CBRE has produced data which shows that
a widespread acceptance that the ‘flexible
revolution’ in off ice space is here to stay. In fact,
92 per cent of the survey agree that flexible off ice
space is on the brink of becoming mainstream.
To discover more about the survey visit the
stand, located between N4 and N5 visitors
entrance, where visitors can meet the team and
engage in conversation about FM, Workplace and
its full service off ering, view demos of some of its innovative technology and find
out how user experience is influencing workplace change.
Stand R650
This year the Facilities Show launches a new area dedicated
to the Health & Wellbeing of the workforce. Below we
round up some of the topics being discussed today at the
Occupational Health & Wellbeing Theatre.
Key skills for thriving
What can organisations do to create a culture and
environment to enable employees to thrive is the theme of
Judith Grant Associate Director, Health and Wellbeing for
Mace from 11:00 - 11:30. She will advise delegates on ways
to develop intervention and support for good physical and
mental wellbeing at work, this she will argue also means
looking a er our own health behaviours to enable all of us
to thrive.
Mental fitness
The term ‘mental health’ almost immediately tends to
throw up negative thoughts and images, particularly when
you compare it to physical health, which is o en depicted
by images of super fit models, exercise and sport. Geo
McDonald, Global Advocate, Campaigner and Consultant,
Mental Health in Workplace says it’s time to change the
narrative. Stress can be good too, but it is o en interpreted
negatively.
Well, well, well
What is “wellbeing”? A seemingly simple question, but
the corporate world has yet to yield a widely accepted
definition, or a proven standardised approach to address it
in the workplace. From 11.40 to 12.20 - in an exploration of
what this emerging industry really encompasses, Kendelle
Tekstar, Product Manager, Acre, will share her personal
journey driving the reinvigoration of Acre’s approach to
workplace wellbeing over the past six months.
Legal stresses
From 12.20 to 12.50 a panel of legal experts, comprising
Heather Beach, Founder & Managing Director at The
Healthy Work Company, Clare Forshaw, an Occupational
Health & Hygiene Consultant and Alex Kiernan from legal
firm Loch Associates, will look at how the law across HR
and Health and Safety dictates approaches to stress and
mental health.
