Vertas Group wins prestigious award for sustainable development

Vertas Group has been honoured with the 2025 King’s Award for Enterprise in Sustainable Development.

One of only 27 organisations to receive this national accolade, the award reflects the company’s outstanding commitment to environmental responsibility and its ongoing efforts to make a meaningful difference for its people, customers, stakeholders, and the planet.

As a provider of integrated facilities management services, including cleaning, catering, grounds maintenance, security, energy management, waste management, property design consultancy, and recruitment services, Vertas Group says it embeds sustainability into every aspect of its operations.

Last year, Vertas Group achieved a 22 per cent absolute carbon reduction, with notable decreases across energy use, water, travel, waste, and paper consumption. These reductions are a testament to the CEO’s stance that “prioritising the planet is non-negotiable”.

Operating within a circular economy, Vertas Group sources renewable energy, extends product lifecycles, and promotes resource sharing by donating waste materials for reuse. The company states it is “proud to lead the way” with its chemical-free cleaning service, using an environmentally friendly, water-based solution that is “revolutionising” industry standards. Vertas Group fosters sustainability in its supply chain, ensuring the goods and services procured meet sustainability criteria. Its sustainable procurement policy has saved £2.2 million in single-use plastics. The Group reinvests locally and supports a sustainable supply chain by focusing procurement spend close to where it is consumed. It has also eliminated single-use items and diverted 99 per cent of waste away from landfill.

Ian Surtees MBA, FIoD, Group Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Vertas Group, commented: “Receiving the King’s Award for Enterprise is a testament to our team’s hard work and dedication to sustainability. This award not only recognises our efforts but also motivates us to continue making a positive impact throughout the UK. We are proud to contribute to a greener future for our community and colleagues.”

The King’s Awards for Enterprise, established in 1965, are the most prestigious business awards in the UK, celebrating excellence in innovation, international trade, sustainable development, and promoting opportunity. Winning this award allows Vertas Group to use the esteemed King’s Awards Emblem for the next five years.
