The University of East London (UEL) and global technology company Siemens have joined forces to launch the Siemens Scholarship for the university’s MSc in Sustainable Energy Engineering.
As the two organisations look to develop the future skills needed to decarbonise infrastructure and industry, the scholarship aims to widen participation in higher education, providing crucial financial support and access for home fee-paying students aspiring to study sustainable energy. By reducing financial barriers, students from disadvantaged backgrounds can pursue their academic ambitions, engage in internships, and benefit from real-world collaborations with industry leaders like Siemens.
Available to students applying for the MSc this September, the scholarship is the next stage in a partnership signed by Siemens and UEL in 2022 which aims to help the university achieve net zero emissions by 2030.
Siemens has already deployed a variety of decarbonisation technologies across the university campus, including the installation of a groundbreaking Water Source Heat Pump (WSHP) at the university’s Docklands campus earlier this year.
Professor David Tann, Dean of the School of Architecture, Computing and Engineering at UEL, said: “This scholarship not only enhances our commitment to sustainability but also underscores our belief in the transformative power of education. We aspire to create a learning environment where talented individuals from all backgrounds can thrive, especially in fields as vital as sustainable energy.”

“Through the scholarship, we’re helping to remove some of the financial barriers to education, ensuring that we can nurture talent with the wide range of skills needed to use the new and emerging technologies which will be so vital to achieving our net zero goals.”
