British Security Award win for Securitas UK in partnership with South West Water

Securitas UK has won the partnership category at the British Security Awards for its advanced lone worker and gas detection devices.

The business was recognised for its deployment of 1,500 lone worker detection devices to South West Water’s operatives, which equip them with the necessary tools to report incidents swiftly and securely, fostering a culture of safety and accountability for those working on the frontline.

The partnership demonstrates Securitas UK’s commitment to proactively addressing worker safety across South West Water’s extensive operations, protecting personnel and infrastructure vital to the community’s wellbeing.

The lone worker and gas detection system is a blend of advanced technology with responsive remote monitoring. The device monitors critical parameters, including:

  • Falls (with impacts registering at a 60 per cent threshold)
  • Periods of immobility
  • SOS distress calls
  • Detection of someone lying down for more than ten minutes
  • Missed check calls
  • Two consecutive hours of inactivity

The additional provision for listen-in services also enhances real-time responsiveness and can escalate situations to the emergency services when necessary, ensuring every possible scenario is anticipated and prepared for.

Alex Davis, Chief Commercial Officer, Securitas UK, said: “We have been working with South West Water for over two decades, and enhancing protocols for their lone worker community was key to maintaining optimum personnel safety. It is great to see this, and the partnership and collaboration between our two teams, being celebrated as a best practice across the industry.

“As a business, we always remain agile, and as the needs of our clients evolve, so do our products and services. This solution is a great example of that, having an immediate and powerful impact on lone worker safety, which in turn enables our partner South West Water to continue to deliver on their commitments.”
