Mitie has been awarded a further three-year contract with the London Fire Brigade for the provision of cleaning services at its sites across Greater London. The deal will also see Mitie provide security at two of the Brigade’s offices, including its Command Centre, guest services at its headquarters, and cleaning and pest control services at the historic Lambeth River Fire Station.
The contract, which has the option to be extended for an additional two years, will bring Mitie’s expertise in sustainability to support the London Fire Brigade’s carbon reduction programme. Across 97 sites , including fire stations, critical offices, headquarters, and River Fire Station, Mitie’s hygiene specialists will use eco-friendly cleaning products which have no harsh chemicals and reduce the amount of single-use plastic waste. Mitie will also help to reduce the London fire service’s carbon footprint by reducing carbon emissions in the supply chain by using UK-based or local suppliers and operating with a fully electric fleet of 11 vehicles.
Mitie’s intelligence-led approach will help unify cleaning services across the estate using its advanced technology platform, Merlin Connect. This will help Mitie colleagues log tasks and report issues more efficiently, as it enhances the ability to pinpoint what services are needed with location accuracy. Other services Mitie colleagues will deliver include landscaping, washroom hygiene, and pest control.
Three new apprenticeship roles are being created to provide job opportunities for those with disabilities and underrepresented groups. Mitie will also deliver seven apprenticeships to existing colleagues to help their career progression in facilities management.
The London Fire Brigade is the UK’s busiest fire and rescue service, and one of the world’s largest, serving Greater London’s nine million residents. As part of Mitie’s commitment to social value, giving back to communities through its volunteering hours scheme, Mitie colleagues will volunteer their time to maintain individual fire stations’ wellness and memorial gardens, a place for firefighters and non-operational colleagues to reflect and relax.
Nick Heath, Managing Director, Cleaning and Hygiene Services, Mitie, said: “We’re proud to build on our five-year-long partnership with the London Fire Brigade, maintaining a clean, secure, and efficient estate that supports its vital work keeping London safe. This contract also demonstrates our commitment to sustainability, skills development, and creating opportunities that help communities thrive.”
Laura Birnbaum, Assistant Director of Property and Technical Support Services, London Fire Brigade, said: “We are pleased to continue this partnership for this critical role in the management of our sites around London. We look forward to building on the relationship we have founded as we move into the next chapter together.”
