Double win for Chequers

Soft services provider, Chequers, has been awarded two five-year contracts, worth £1.9 million annually, with Midland Heart, one of the Midlands’ largest housing associations.

The deals will see Chequers deliver cleaning and grounds maintenance services across more than 1,600 of Midland Heart’s sites.

Midland Heart provides 35,000 quality, affordable homes across 51 local authorities, overseeing 70,000 tenants. Chequers will deliver cleaning services at 500 locations and grounds maintenance at 1,170 sites, with approximately 50 colleagues transferring to Chequers for the contracts.

Chequers secured the contracts following a competitive tender process. Its strong submission and evidence of consistent delivery were key factors in securing the contracts, as was its long track record in the social housing sector.

Emily Leng, Commercial Contracts Manager at Midland Heart, said: “Our priority is ensuring our tenants live in clean, safe and welcoming places they can feel proud of. We’re pleased to be working with Chequers to deliver high‑quality cleaning and grounds maintenance, helping us maintain the shared spaces our tenants rely on every day.”

Naomi Childe, MD at Chequers, commented: “We’re delighted to have this opportunity to work with Midland Heart and support the local community. These contract wins reflect our commitment to delivering excellent services and our ability to demonstrate consistent, reliable performance. Our team looks forward to bringing their expertise and dedication to every site across the Midlands.”

FMJ and Watco Webinar: Meeting compliance in a new culture of accountability

From January 2026, the Building Safety Regulator (BSR) formally separated from the Health and Safety Executive (HSE). Created under the Building Safety Act 2022 in response to the Grenfell Tower tragedy, the BSR is designed to raise safety standards across the built environment and introduce a stronger culture of accountability, transparency, and proactive risk management.

This shift places facilities managers in a more strategic safety assurance role – far beyond routine maintenance.

FMJ and Watco are hosting a webinar on 22 April at 11:00am to explore what this new regulatory landscape means for FMs. To register for the webinar click here.
