Managing Director of Brighton-based PR and communications consultancy Magenta Associates, Jo Sutherland, has been appointed to the Advisory Board of emex, one of the UK’s leading sustainability and energy management exhibitions.
For more than a decade, emex has connected the UK sustainability community with the suppliers, tools and insights needed to cut energy use, reduce impact and save costs. The show, which gathers more than 3,500 visitors across two days, focuses on building a more sustainable, resilient built environment, helping organisations adapt to climate risk, reduce reliance on fossil fuels, and take greater control of their energy use and security across both the public and private sectors.
Sutherland joins the Advisory Board in a formal capacity, following several years of contributing to the emex conference programme through her expertise in the built environment and sustainability communications. She will help shape the agenda for the 2026 edition of the show.
Commenting on the appointment, a spokesperson for emex said: “For the last few years, Jo has brought a great amount of experience and insight from reporting on the built environment and facilities management sectors to emex, making valuable contributions to the strength and relevance of our conference programme. We’re delighted to be working with her in a more formal capacity and to draw on her expertise as we continue to shape a forward-looking and impactful agenda.”
Sutherland said: “The shift we’re seeing across the built environment and FM sectors right now is from intent to action. Sustainability is no longer primarily a communications exercise. It’s a financial and operational discipline, and the organisations getting it right are treating carbon as a liability that needs active management. emex is one of the few places where that conversation happens seriously, and I’m proud to be helping shape it.”
The appointment reflects the B Corp-certified, employee-owned consultancy’s established position as a strategic communications partner to organisations across the built environment, sustainability and facilities management sectors.
