Hospitality business, BaxterStorey, has been crowned Large Business of the Year at the British Business Awards from eight shortlisted companies.
The awards ceremony held at the Edinburgh International Conference Centre (EICC) is a national, not-for-profit, cross-industry event in partnership with NatWest, which celebrates businesses’ achievements in innovation, leadership, ESG impact and commercial success.
The Large Business of the Year award acknowledges the UK’s premier large businesses, showcasing the achievements of both public limited companies and enterprises with a turnover exceeding £100 million.
While proof of growth and commercial performance are considered, winners of this award are particularly recognised for evidence of job creation and positive company culture, as well as demonstrating social responsibility and excellence within their respective industry.
The judging panel, chaired by former Unilever CEO Alan Jope CBE, included Ennismore Founder Sharan Pasricha, Coutts Bank CEO Emma Crystal, Gleneagles Managing Director Conor O’Leary, and CEO of Mitchells and Butlers Phil Urban.
Over the last 12 months, BaxterStorey has not only grown its Net Promoter Score by 16 points, but improved employee benefits, including extending maternity leave from six to 24 weeks. The business also achieved the highest world class status under the Institute of Hospitality’s Hospitality Assured quality standard, which covers processes, customer service standards and employee engagement.
Ronan Harte, CEO of BaxterStorey, said: “This has been a truly special year for BaxterStorey, and winning at the British Business Awards is a powerful recognition of the passion and commitment our teams bring every single day. From growing valued partnerships and launching new recognition programmes, to a record number of apprenticeship graduates and unmatched job creation, our rockstars have driven progress across every corner of the business. Our food culture has never been stronger, and our social impact never greater. This award is for our teams, they are the heart of what makes BaxterStorey so special.”
The event was hosted by comedian Rob Brydon with addresses by singer Sting and awards patron Sir Bob Geldof, and raised more than £1 million for charity Social Bite.
Fellow winners during the evening included the TEFL Org, Walker’s Shortbread, clothing brand Seasalt and law firm Addleshaw Goddard.
