Alexandra (Alex) Pearsall was appointed the new president of the Chartered Institution of Civil Engineering Surveyors (CICES) on 3 September.
Currently an Associate Director at global professional services company, Turner & Townsend, at 32, Pearsall makes history as CICES’ youngest ever president.
A fellow of the institution, she officially took over the role at the Annual General Meeting, succeeding Alison Watson MBE.
A highly experienced quantity surveyor, Pearsall has contributed to major projects including HS2, Heathrow Airport, the London 2012 Olympics and the Tottenham Court Road station upgrade. She has also served as a review examiner for CICES.
Pearsall’s presidential theme is ‘Shaping the Future of Construction’, which will be focused on three specific elements; skills gap, digital and the industry’s culture. It is a call to action to ensure our industry is built to last.
She said: “I’m honoured to step into the role of CICES president. Having served on Council of Management for the past five years, I’m excited to explore how we can drive progress under my presidential theme of Shaping the Future of Construction.
“I’d also like to thank Alison Watson for her dedication and leadership over the past year. I look forward to working closely with the CICES team and our members on exciting initiatives shaping the future of our industry and as president, I hope to help demonstrate the impact that the industry can have on improving lives.”
Simon Hamlyn, CEO at CICES said: “I am delighted that Alex is our new president. In her years serving as a Council of Management member and trustee, Alex’s support and passion for the future of the industry is evident and Alex was instrumental in setting up our Tomorrow’s Leaders Committee.
“With Alex as our new president, the Council of Management, regional, core committees and panels and my colleagues are looking forward to embracing the presidential theme – Shaping the Future of Construction.”
