The recent E.ON and FMJ webinar: Moving from a reactive service to proactive services: Identifying energy issues early and automatically spelt out the many benefits of investing in the latest tech to manage a Building Management System.
Nick Westlake: Energy and Service Delivery Manager at E.ON Control Solutions explained that aside from energy savings there are many other benefits of having an up-to-date control system.
“Being able to connect buildings to monitor systems means that 75 per cent of calls that we receive can be resolved over the phone by making a change remotely or giving the right advice to an HVAC engineer. This reduces the number of times that you’re sending people to site.”
Sunil Shah, the author of IWFM’s Energy Management Good Practice Guide and MD of Acclaro Advisory agreed that ensuring the BMS can detect issues before they impact building performance goes much deeper than reducing energy costs.
He said: “It offers carbon reduction, wellbeing and productivity benefits from improved environmental conditions – compliance and meeting corporate targets so it’s not just about the savings but a wider series of benefits to the organisation.”
Sharing his experiences of using an intelligent BMS David Cermak, Regional Facilities Manager for David Lloyd Clubs said his general managers can access the system from their office without having to walk around the club to check on everything from the HVAC in a club room to the temperature of a pool.
As an FM, he added: “The second platform that we use offers an in depth technical view which is really great for diagnosing any issues, from the primary flow temperature to the heating valve meaning now I can be fairly confident I can diagnose a lot of issues using the system.”
