Former minister joins The Kingdom Group as business adviser

(l-r) Terry Barton, Founder and CEO of The Kingdom Group, and Lord Peter Hain

The Kingdom Group has appointed former Cabinet Minister Lord Peter Hain as Business Adviser, with immediate effect.

Strengthening the Group’s leadership as it enters its next phase of growth, Lord Peter Hain brings decades of experience at the highest levels of public service, having held senior ministerial posts for 12 years in Tony Blair and Gordon Brown’s governments. He was previously the Secretary of State for Wales, Secretary of State for Work and Pensions and Leader of the Commons. He has also chaired the UN Security Council, and served as the Labour MP for Neath, Wales, for 24 years. Following this, he has been a member of the House of Lords since 2015.

In his new role, Lord Peter Hain will advise on long-term strategy, social value and community impact, drawing on his wealth of his extensive political, governance and non-executive experience. In addition to his extensive political expertise, this includes various non-executive director roles, as well as being on the chair of Trustees at charities including the Donald Woods Foundation and Listen Charity.

Kingdom Founder and CEO Terry Barton said of the appointment: “We are delighted that Lord Peter Hain has come on board as Business Adviser, providing invaluable insight and guidance to our senior team.

“Lord Hain and I both share a belief in helping people who haven’t necessarily had the best start in life. He will help to advise us on how we can be supporting stronger communities and part of that will be giving a helping hand especially to young people. From humble beginnings to now over £300 million in revenue, The Kingdom Group has gone from strength to strength. Lord Peter Hain’s appointment will help us to improve our social value proposition in the years ahead and continue to better ourselves, our colleagues and the wider community in line with our CARE values.”

Lord Peter Hain said: “I’m pleased to be advising The Kingdom Group, it’s a significant organisation with over 11,500 people across the UK and there’s an opportunity to make a real difference when you’re an employer of that size and scale. I look forward to helping them to make a difference in the communities that they are part of.”

Webinar FMJ and askporter: How to overcome the comms gap in FM with AI and tech tools

According to the 2026 UK Facilities Management Market Research Report by askporter, facilities management professionals want clear, verifiable evidence of work being delivered, with teams that can communicate progress in real time. This requires technology that is affordable, intuitive, and quick to adopt.

Yet the report found that:

Over three quarters of FM professionals (76 per cent) experience operational inefficiencies caused by siloed software which results in a lack of real-time visibility.

Communications challenges lead to maintenance issues, with 73 per cent of teams being forced into reactive problem-solving on a weekly basis.

A worrying level of compliance gaps, with 44 per cent of admitting that half or less of their compliance tasks are tracked and automated within their systems.

Closing this gap requires the establishment of transparent and consistent communications using affordable software that gives FM teams the ability to track, evidence and improve their services.

This webinar provides a valuable overview of the main findings of the report by askporter followed by a panel discussion by FM thought leaders on practical, strategic solutions that can help close this communications gap.
