Marble Arch London BID partners with leading businesses to create Safe Havens

Marble Arch London BID has announced that the Marriott Hotel Marble Arch, The Cumberland Hotel, and McDonald’s have become the first of the district’s Safe Havens.

The Safe Havens initiative, delivered in partnership with the Safer Business Network, is part of the BID’s wider drive to address the safety of women and girls at night as well as vulnerable people, working, visiting, and living across the Edgware Road and Marble Arch district.

The new Safe Havens at the Marriott Hotel Marble Arch, The Cumberland Hotel, and McDonald’s will provide a secure environment in which people can seek support or take a short break to charge their phone, organise a taxi or have a drink of water – from which they can safely continue their journey home.

Although not expected to provide specialist interventions or solve someone’s problems directly, staff within the Safe Havens can contact emergency services and signpost specialist services where needed.

The Marble Arch Safe Havens will be part of the existing pan-London Safe Haven scheme which are all found on the Safe Haven app which is available to download for both iOS and Android. Other partners include the Metropolitan Police who are available to support Safe Havens, and all three Safe Havens will be recognisable by door/window stickers at each venue.

Kay Buxton, Chief Executive, Marble Arch London BID, commented: “We are pleased to announce the Marriott Hotel Marble Arch, McDonald’s and The Cumberland Hotel as the first of our Safe Haven partners. As a destination with a thriving late night economy, it is crucial that we have recognisable spaces where those visiting Marble Arch and Edgware Road can feel safe and seek support. We look forward to working closely with our Safe Haven partners as we continue to ensure the district is a welcoming place for all.”

Rachelle O’Sullivan, Partnership Manager at the Safer Business Network, said: The Safe Havens initiative is a powerful example of how businesses can come together to make London’s public spaces safer and more supportive. We’re pleased to work alongside Marble Arch London BID and their partners to deliver specialist training that empowers staff to respond confidently and compassionately when someone is in need. Together, we’re building a stronger network of safe spaces across London.”
